She and I are taking the same on-line class. Our class was cancelled this evening, so we were just chatting in the chat room. I mentioned that I am starting physical therapy this week. She asked me if it was "family centered", LOL!

Description: This is a one-day training split between the topics of hearing and vision. In vision, participants will learn how and who to screen as well as who is at risk of vision impairments, warning signs, types of screening tools, and when/how to refer for further assessment/services. In hearing, participants will learn the types and causes of hearing loss, it’s impact on development, use of a screening questionnaire, when/how to screen, and when/how to refer for further assessments and services.

EI Providers and Families,

The 10th Illinois Statewide Collaborative Early Childhood Conference will be held Oct.17-19, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza in Springfield, IL. The pre-conference will take place on October 17, 2007 and will feature a full day of trainings offered through the Early Intervention Training Program. The Training Program will offer half-day sessions on:
Sibling Perspectives of a Brother with Cerebral Palsy;
Professional Boundaries in Natural Environments;
Working with African American Families;
Providers Helping Families with Transition (This session will include a panel discussion).
The Training program will also offer as a pre-conference session, a full-day workshop on
Developing Meaningful Intervention Plans for Families.

This pre-conference is free (a box lunch will be available for purchase). For additional information contact Lucy Gimble at 866-509-3867.
Providers who wish to attend the full conference taking place on October 18 & 19, 2007 will need to pay a registration fee of $150. and Cohort 1 (y'all really need to get a name!) I am creating this as a way for us to keep in touch, as well as a place to put questions and ideas out there for discussion among the Auditory/Oral Development Specialists. So, I'll try to keep up on this as best as I can. I'll continue to play around with the blog to try to make it meet our needs. If there are things that you'd like to see done with it, let me know.

I considered a message board, but found that those are a lot of work. I will be easy for us to make comments here, and the upkeep is pretty easy. I guess to start with, I will have my email address as a link on the home page. When you have something to post, just email it to me, and I will cut and paste it to the blog. If it looks like this may get used a lot, I may bring in a few more "authors" to help.

Cohort 1- this would be a great place to ask questions about practicum. I'm sure that as varied as the pioneers experiences were, someone will have ideas, suggestions, etc. for you :)
